A Food Hub is a business or organization that is formed to help the marketing, processing, and distribution of food from small farms to buyers. They are increasingly being developed across North America, in recognition that small farmers are critical to our food supply, and that there is increasing challenges to farming such as land costs and competition from industrialized farms.
Food Hubs are an ideal way to bring growers and buyers together, and the concept is being explored in Richmond. The Local Food movement is thriving, and Richmond has a strong farming community.
In 2016, we completed this Discussion Paper to bring together some background research and set the stage for deeper explorations of this concept, and if it would be a fit here.
