Among the many volunteers who help Urban Bounty build food security in our city are the dedicated individuals who serve on our Board of Directors.

The Board holds overall responsibility for the organization’s direction and long-term sustainability. Through policies covering strategic planning, personnel, and financial oversight, Board Members provide guidance and support to our Executive Director and staff.

Board Members also serve as ambassadors, promoting our work to the broader community and connecting new people, ideas, and opportunities to our team. Together, they ensure our programs and activities are well-resourced and stay true to our mission and vision.

If you’re interested in joining the Board, please check our current volunteer opportunities. We’re deeply grateful to have such a talented and diverse group of volunteer directors generously sharing their knowledge and skills with Urban Bounty.

Phil Carriere – Chair

Phil is a retired federal Policy Analyst who worked in Ottawa and here in BC for both Transport Canada and the RCMP. He has been a Richmond resident and community gardener at Terra Nova since 2004. He enjoys a bit of golf and world travel with his wife Linda. Phil has served as an Urban Bounty board member since 2019.

Luther Sy – Vice Chair

Luther joined the board in 2017 after seeing a need in food security after volunteering with the community meals around Richmond. He holds a degree in human resources and works in the security industry. In his free time he can be found in various community meals or tending to his mint and tomato garden.

Christine Middlemass – Secretary

A long-time Richmond resident, Christine has spent her career in libraries — as a librarian, manager, teacher, and professional leader — driven throughout by a genuine love of learning and a commitment to serving her community. After retiring from Vancouver Public Library in 2017, she stayed active in the field, serving on the BC Library Association board for over 10 years (including a term as President from 2020–2021), teaching management and HR courses as an adjunct professor at UBC’s School of Information for more than two decades, and most recently stepping in as Interim Executive Director for the BC Library Trustees Association. Outside of work, Christine is an enthusiastic community gardener at the King George Garden, where she enjoys getting to know fellow gardeners, sharing her surplus tomato seedlings, and picking up tips along the way — and where she’s discovered that weeding never ends, whether you’re in a library or a garden!

Jordan Price – Treasurer

Born and raised in Richmond, Jordan graduated from the BCIT School of Business with a Bachelor of Accounting. He currently works as a senior accountant at Klue, a Vancouver tech startup, and has past experience at KPMG where he audited multi-national public corporations, private companies, and of course not-for-profit entities. Jordan splits his free time between gardening at his Garratt plot with his partner, singing with (and also being the treasurer for) the Richmond Orchestra & Choir Association, and crocheting/quilting on the couch!

Gerry Mulholland – Director

Gerry holds a Diploma in Urban Land Economics and works as a consultant based out of Richmond. His primary role is to work with clients to understand how economics relates to land use, development, and planning. Growing up, his father instilled in Gerry an appreciation for agriculture with a hobby farm in Langley that had chickens, cows, and horses, along with a large vegetable garden.

Erzsi Institorisz – Director

Erzsi Institorisz brings 14+ years in bilingual IT/ERP technical support, customer service, and strategic HR to the work of building stronger communities. As Community Lead for North America at Sage, she leads community engagement, content creation, and social care across English- and French-speaking regions. Guided by sustainability, innovation, and a passion for helping others thrive, she co-founded GreenSeeds Music Society, a non-profit connecting communities through music and environmental advocacy, and has contributed to environmental and food security initiatives across Richmond, BC. Multilingual in English, French, Spanish, and Hungarian, her professional focus is customer success, digital transformation, and knowledge management, and she is currently completing the GDBA at SFU’s Beedie School of Business, laddering into the Flexible MBA in fall 2026 to build skills in analytics, decision modelling, and data storytelling that help communities and organizations grow.

Donna Kwan – Director

Donna believes that nutritious food should be accessible to all, no matter where we live or how much money we have. She believes there is far too much food waste and sees preventative measures such as making meal plans, growing our own produce, using ugly fruits and vegetables, and gleaning excess produce as solutions we can use to reduce food insecurity and lessen environmental impact. She believes that eating well on a budget can be achieved by knowing how and what to cook. Donna has a degree in biochemistry from UBC and has worked as a research assistant with Agriculture Canada. She has recently retired so has more time to spend gardening, cycling, skiing, traveling, and volunteering.

Elizabeth McManus – Director

Elizabeth is a life-long learner always soaking up new ideas and ways of living. She lives in Richmond and has a been gardening at the Railway-Hollymount garden since 2022.  She grew up as a city girl with a country heart.  Being able to garden and learn about food security has become a daily important part of her life. The garden has become her place to decompress after work, loving the conversations that happen with visitors and other gardeners, and always learning something new. During the work week she’s an archivist in an Indigenous community, unlearning some of the colonial aspects of her profession and replacing them with different ways of thinking about information preservation.
